The whole island is roughly circled by a single coastal road, and most attractions are reachable from anywhere on it within an hour by scooter. So don't over-think this decision — but it's still worth knowing what each area offers before you book.

San Juan — Nightlife and Convenience

The west coast around San Juan is Siquijor's most developed tourist strip, with the highest concentration of restaurants, bars, and dive shops on the island. If you want to be walking distance from a choice of places to eat and drink in the evening, this is the area with the most options.

Maria — Quiet Beaches, Fewer Crowds

The southeast coast around Maria, where Alien Beach Club is based, is quieter and less built-up than San Juan. It's a good fit if you'd rather have a private stretch of beach and a slower pace than a strip of bars and restaurants to choose from — most resorts here run their own kitchens, so you're not missing out on dining by being farther from the main tourist area.

Larena — The Main Port Town

Larena is one of the island's primary ferry ports and its most functional town — banks, markets, and municipal services are concentrated here. It's a practical base if you're arriving or departing frequently, but has less in the way of resort-style accommodation than the coastal tourist areas.

Lazi — History and Nature

Home to the island's most striking historic landmark, the coral-stone Lazi Church and its adjoining convent, plus easy access to the old Balete Tree fish spa. A good base if history and nature are your priority over nightlife, though options here lean toward smaller guesthouses rather than full resorts.

San Antonio / Coco Grove — Established Resort Area

The stretch near San Antonio, often referred to by the Coco Grove area, has one of the island's longer histories of resort development, with a mix of mid-range and upscale properties along a well-regarded beach.

Our Take
We'd choose the quiet side — Maria
A private white-sand beach, our own kitchen and bar, and everything else on the island still within easy scooter reach.

Does It Really Matter Where You Stay?

Less than you'd think. Because the island is so compact, a scooter (which most visitors rent regardless of where they're staying) puts almost every major attraction within a 20–40 minute ride. Choosing your base is really about deciding what you want your mornings and evenings to feel like — walkable nightlife, or a quiet stretch of private sand — rather than worrying about being "close enough" to any particular waterfall or beach.

Our Recommendation

If you want an unusual place to sleep as much as a good base to explore from, that's exactly what we built. Alien Beach Club puts you on a private beach in Maria, with the rest of the island — Cambugahay Falls, Salagdoong's cliffs, Lazi's churches — all reachable on a scooter you can rent right at the resort.
